DENVER -- It was a moment Crystal Tanner never thought would actually happen. But it did.
Tanner is the winner of the 2016 St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway at Tollgate Crossing in Aurora.
Tanner, a Denver resident, dreamed of the St. Jude Dream Home for several reasons.
First, it's closer to her work at Jeppesen-Sanders, and she said this year has been a tough one.
"My balance was getting really bad and I had to stop working last year because of falling," she said.
Tanner has cerebellar ataxia, a disorder that attacks the area of the brain controlling gait and muscle coordination.
"It's gonna get worse until eventually I fall and kill myself," she said.
There is no cure or treatment for cerebellar ataxia. But Thursday, she was all smiles.
Tanner won the Dream Home with one ticket, but she bought 49 more for a little luck. That's $5,000.
Thursday morning, while she was watching the drawing of the winner on "Good Day Colorado," she heard her name. Tanner said her dream came true.
St. Jude, the patron saint of hope and impossible causes, works in many ways. For the kids at the hospital, and maybe for Crystal Tanner, too.
