200,000 pounds of frozen chicken, beef meals recalled because of metal fragments

WASHINGTON — ConAgra Foods is recalling nearly 200,000 pounds of meat that might be tainted with a dangerous ingredient — “curled, malleable and shiny” metal fragments.

The recall affects several types of P.F. Chang’s frozen meals containing chicken and beef. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the metal might be embedded in the sauce contained in the frozen packages.

There have not been any confirmed cases of people consuming the fragments, which range in length between 2 millimeters and 9 millimeters.

The problem was first discovered July 1 when an employee making the sauce spotted the shards while pouring sugar bought from a supplier. The frozen chicken and beef items were produced between May 31 and June 22.

The USDA is urging people not to consume the following products:

22-ounce plastic bagged meal packages of “P.F. Chang’s Home Menu Beef with Broccoli” with “Use By” date of June 4, 2017 and case code 5006616100.

22-ounce plastic bagged meal packages of “P.F. Chang’s Home Menu Sweet & Sour Chicken” with “Use By” date of June 3, 2017 and case code 5006616000.

22-ounce plastic bagged meal packages of “P.F. Chang’s Home Menu General Chang’s Chicken” with “Use By” date of June 3, 2017 and case code 5006616000.

22-ounce plastic bagged meal packages of “P.F. Chang’s Home Menu Garlic Chicken with Dan Dan Noodles” with “Use By” date of June 8, 2017 and case code 5006616500.

22-ounce plastic bagged meal packages of “P.F. Chang’s Home Menu Grilled Chicken Teriyaki with Lo Mein Noodles” with “Use By” date of June 10, 2017 and case code 5006616700.

22-ounce plastic bagged meal packages of “P.F. Chang’s Home Menu Signature Spicy Chicken” with “Use By” date of May 26, 2017 and case code 5006615200.

Products affected by the recall will have “EST. 223” or “EST. P-115” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The meals were shipped to distributors and retail locations across the nation.
