WESTMINSTER, Colo. -- Police shot and killed a man late Thursday afternoon after they said he ran over an officer.

Officers were in the parking lot of a Guitar Center at Sheridan Boulevard and West 86th Avenue about 4:30 p.m. trying to take a suspect who had multiple felony warrants into custody, police said.

Police said there was a struggle outside the suspect's vehicle and it had a remote start. The suspect managed to get into the car.

"The suspect started driving the vehicle, ran over our officer and dragged him for a period of time in the parking lot," Westminster police investigator Kate Kazell said.

Other officers opened fire on the suspect. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Kazell said the officer who was run over was taken to a hospital and to be treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.
