FOX31 Denver, Colorado’s own Channel 2 nominated for 61 regional Emmy awards

DENVER — We’re happy to share with our loyal viewers that FOX31 Denver and Colorado’s Own Channel 2 received 61 nominations in the 2016 Heartland Regional Emmy competition on Thursday night. We were nominated in 51 categories, including Overall Station Excellence, News Excellence, Best Evening Newscast, Best Team Coverage and Best Breaking News Coverage.

“We are very appreciative of this prestigious recognition by our peers in television news and journalism,” said Holly Gauntt, Vice President of News and Digital Content for KDVR and KWGN. “We are especially proud that many of the nominations are for team awards.”

In addition to team recognition, several individuals were also nominated, including Anchor Jeremy Hubbard for Best News Anchor, Chief Meteorologist Dave Fraser for Best Weather Anchor and Sports Director Nick Griffith for Best Sports Anchor.

“The recognition from our peers is appreciated and validates the amazing work that our news team does each and every day,” said Joan Barrett, Vice President and General Manager for KDVR and KWGN. “I have been so impressed with quality of journalism from our team and I hope more Coloradans will take the time to check out our newscasts, they won’t be disappointed.”

We also received nominations in the following categories: General Assignment Report, Continuing Coverage, Investigative Report, Feature News Light Feature, Feature News Light Series, Business/Consumer, Politics/Government, Crime Feature, Human Interest, Environment, Societal Concerns, Specialty Assignment Report, Sports Feature, Technology, Arts/Entertainment Program/Series/Special, Arts/Entertainment Program Feature/Segment, Business/Consumer Program/Series/Special, Lifestyle Program/Series/Special, Environment Program/Feature, Human Interest Program/Series/Special, Sports Program Series, Sports One-Time Special, Informational/Instructional Program/Series/Special, Special Event Coverage, Technology Feature/Segment, Nostalgia Series/Special, News Promo, Program Promo, Community Service, Journalistic Enterprise, Interactivity, Editor Program, Editor News, Editor Sports, Graphic Arts Program, Graphic Arts News, Performer/Host/Moderator, Photographer Program, Photographer News, Photographer Sports, Technical Achievement, Writer Program and Writer News.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) and the Emmy Award stand for the best in the television industry. With 19 chapters across the country, NATAS is the only non-profit organization dedicated to recognizing outstanding achievement, raising industry standards, and improving the quality of television. The NATAS Heartland Chapter includes television markets in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma.

Judging for nominations in 6 categories is not yet complete. The Heartland Regional Emmy Award winners will be announced on July 16, so stay tuned!
