ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. -- A man was fatally shot at a Super 8 motel early Wednesday morning, the Adams County Sheriff's Office said.

There were reports of shots fired about 4 a.m. at the motel at 5888 Broadway, on the west side of Interstate 25 just north of East 58th Avenue. When deputies arrived, they found the person on the ground in the parking lot of the motel.

"It was like pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop," said a man who was staying at the motel with his family. "My girlfriend came in the room and said to keep all the kids in the room. I didn't comprehend what she was saying because it was 4 o'clock in the morning. And then I got up at 6 and saw all the yellow tape.

"But she said it was one shot after another."

It's unclear if the person was transported and died or died at the scene, the sheriff's office said.

Investigators have a partial description of a vehicle seen leaving the parking lot found but are not releasing it.

A woman was questioned about the shooting but she has been released. No official suspects are in custody.
