MILWAUKEE -- Witnesses told the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office that a child in the back seat of a car got hold of a gun and fired a single bullet into the driver's back.

The incident happened in the southbound lanes of Interstate 41/State Highway 175 about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to officials.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene and found a 26-year-old woman with a gunshot wound, according to WITI. She was pulseless and not breathing.

Deputies began CPR until the Milwaukee Fire Department arrived, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

"People were panicking and you could tell people were generally trying to help," Kourtney Blevins said. "I know there’s some little boys down there which they put in a police car. It was two little boys. It looked like some kids were involved, unfortunately."
