DENVER -- The weekend snowstorm stopped tens of thousands of people from crowding into Civic Center Park for what has become an annual pot smoking celebration.

The actual day, 4/20, was Wednesday and while nothing was organized, hundreds of people showed up at Civic Center Park to mark the day. The Denver Police Department put up barricades around the park in anticipation of a large crowd gathering Wednesday afternoon.

Some vendors were not too happy as they had already begun setting up shop for the event. But the event organizers said the weather started a domino effect that led to other problems out of their control.

The big event that was supposed to happen on Saturday will be rescheduled. Organizers plan to announce when and where on Friday.

Still, marijuana enthusiasts were ready for Wednesday.

"I think it's just a great opportunity to celebrate the advances that have been made in the industry," Kayleigh Greer said.

The Colorado Department of Transportation will staged a "Slow-Speed Chase" around Civic Center Park during the anticipated rally and at Fiddler's Green Amphitheater for the Snoop Dogg concert Wednesday night.

The demonstration is to raise awareness about the effects, laws and penalties of driving while under the influence of marijuana. One vehicle will look like a patrol car and the other will be wrapped in bright marijuana leaf designs, CDOT said.

The Colorado State Patrol was also out in force throughout the state to "prioritize enforcement based on ongoing events."
