Former Nuggets guard Ty Lawson sentenced for DUI arrest
DENVER — Former Nuggets guard Ty Lawson was sentenced Tuesday for a DUI case from more than a year ago.
Lawson, 28, pleaded guilty in November to driving while ability impaired and failing to drive in a single lane.
He was sentenced to one year of probation with monitored sobriety, 48 hours of community service, 52 hours of alcohol education and treatment, and he must attend a victim impact panel. He was also fined $1,571.
Lawson was arrested on suspicion of DUI in the 3400 block of Park Avenue West in Denver on Jan. 23, 2015. Police said Lawson was pulled over after being clocked going 60 mph in a 35 mph zone and passing another vehicle.
Though he refused to take a chemical test, according to police, Lawson admitted to drinking alcohol before driving, his eyes were bloodshot, he was slurring his speech, there was a strong smell of alcohol on his breath, he was unsteady on his feet and he failed a field sobriety test. Police said Lawson also did not have valid identification on his person.
