His father, Tony Lopez Sr., is a commander with the Denver Police Department.

Lopez Jr. was named one of DPD’s Best of 2014 after “he met a 4-year-old girl and would eventually go out of his way to make sure she got the birthday she deserved after saving her mom's life.”

That story went viral and Denver police said it reached more than 8.5 million people.
