Man caught shoplifting, pepper sprayed store officials in Westminster

WESTMINSTER, Colo. – A man who was caught shoplifting at a Westminster Walmart will be charged with Robbery after he pepper sprayed store officials, according to Westminster Police.

The incident happened at 10:30 a.m at the Walmart at 200 136th Avenue.

The man who was shoplifting was reportedly confronted by Loss Prevention Officers and became combative. A physical altercation ensued and the shoplifter pepper sprayed the officers, Westminster Police reported.

Westminster Police arrived and the shoplifter was taken into custody.

Authorities said the man may be charged with Robbery due to the assault and use of the pepper spray during the incident. Β The identity of the man has not yet been released.

The loss prevention officers were treated on scene by Fire Department personnel then released.
