COCOA BEACH, Fla. -- A Colorado woman will have surgery Tuesday after she was bitten by a shark while vacationing with her family.

Jill Kruse of Colorado Springs traveled to Cocoa Beach, Fla., on Saturday. She was only there a day when she was attacked while wading in the water.

She punched the shark while others on the beach came to help her. Her mother said her daughter has a long road of recovery ahead.

"She's just hurting. It's gonna take a while for her to heal but we're just so blessed to have her," Kruse's mother said.

Kruse's injury is on her calf.

Her friends started a GoFundMe account to help pay for medical expenses and a vacation redo because she had been saving for the trip for more than two years.
