KERSEY, Colo. — Multiple agencies put out a fast-moving grass fire in Weld County on Friday that burned 12,669, the Platte Valley Fire Protection District said.

The fire was from approximately Highway 34 at Weld County Road 69 south to Interstate 76. It was 100 percent contained late Friday night.

Heavy smoke was seen in the area as crews battled the fire, which started about 10 a.m. southeast of Kersey.

Two tanker drops Friday night protected one structure.

The fire closed Interstate 76 for a while Friday afternoon. The Colorado Department of Transportation said the highway was reopened around 3:30 p.m.
