DENVER — A Denver man is accused of being involved in a racially motivated assault on a 23-year-old woman, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office.

At about 2 a.m. on June 25, the victim and her friends were walking near 1000 South Broadway St. when they were reportedly assaulted by Christopher Derby, age 27.

The victim suffered a laceration during the attack and this injury required stitches.  The DA’s office alleges that Derby assaulted the group because of their race.

The DA’s office accused Derby of a bias-motivated crime and third-degree assault.

Derby was taken in to custody and his bond was set at $5,000.

Derby remains in custody and is due in court Aug. 7 for the second advisement of his charges.
