Highway reopens after clean-up of car accident, 2 injured

BRIGHTON, Colo. — U.S. Highway 85 reopened around 5 p.m. after being closed for an extended period from 168th Avenue to Highway 7 due to a car accident that left two injured Saturday.

The crash happened when a vehicle travelling on Highway 85 veered into the oncoming lane and hit another car broadside, according to a spokesperson for the Colorado State Patrol. Four cars were involved in the accident.

The adult male driver of car that was hit broadside was transported with minor injuries to a local hospital. A child in the backseat was flown to Children’s Hospital, initially reported with serious injuries, but those initial reports were dismissed after further police investigation.

Another female front seat passenger was not injured.

There are no updates as of 4 p.m. Saturday as to whether the driver of the car that veered into the oncoming traffic was hurt or not.

Police are currently investigating the crash and its causes.
