DENVER -- Police say they are getting reports about a man in a late model, silver Mercury Milan, who is following neighborhood U.S. mail trucks when mail is being delivered.

The man waits for mail to go into the free-standing boxes in folks yards. he has been caught on video pulling right up to the boxes, opening them and stealing everything inside.

“We were waiting for packages and after checking the tracking system, we knew they had been dropped off,” said Sonya Chavez. “But when we got home nothing was in our box. Checking our surveillance video we saw the man drive right up and steal our stuff.”

Theft of mail puts you at risk both financially and for identity theft. Police say get a mail box with lock and key to make the crooks work harder to steal from you. And for crooks who might see this, stealing mail is a federal crime!
