DENVER — On the heels of drafting defensive end Shane Ray from the University of Missouri Thursday night, the Denver Broncos stayed much closer to home for their second round pick Friday night.

Their focus was on the offensive line and they went with Ram from Colorado State University.

Ty Sambrailo is a guy the Broncos management expects could compete for a starting job at right tackle. He’s big, he’s tough and he could have immediate impact.

At 6’6″, 311 pounds, Sambrailo was the 59th overall pick in this draft.

Broncos General Manager John Elway said that he fits their system.

The Broncos also had a pick in the third round. They selected tight end Jeff Heuerman from Ohio State. He’s another big guy, 6’5″ and 254 pounds. He struggled with injuries last season.

But when he was on the field he was someone who made noticeable contributions, and proved he knows how to block. Heuerman was the 92nd overall pick in the draft.
