The court is in a break. They should be back around 1:05 PM
Arapahoe County DA George Brauchler’s opening statement begins like this:
“Through this door is horror. Through this door of bullets,
blood, brains & bodies. Through this door, one guy who felt as if he had
lost his career, lost his love life, lost his purpose, came to execute a plan not just in his heart or in his life, but for two and a half months in his mind.”
The court is on a 30 minute break. Opening statements from Holmes’ attorneys, expected to be handled by Daniel King & Katherine Spengler, will likely begin around 3:30 p.m.
This is from our Justin Joseph, who was inside the courtroom during Arapahoe County DA George Brauchler’s opening statements:
-The families of victims held it together fairly well until the very end, Joseph said, when the graphic photos of their dead loved one from the crime scene were shown.
-Members of the media also struggled with that portion of openings, as well as others. Lots of tears, Joseph said.
-On the other hand, Joseph said, the jury was very stalwart throughout Brauchler’s remarks. About the only notable reaction from them was a woman who fanned herself the whole time, Joseph said. He also said there was one juror who appeared to be nodding off during the judge’s opening instructions, though she appeared attentive once Brauchler’s remarks began.
-Joseph said there was not much reaction from Holmes, as he swiveled in his chair throughout Brauchler’s remarks. However, Joseph said he noticed what may have been a slight smirk from Holmes when a sinister photo of him posing with a handgun and black contacts was shown.
Apologies for the break in the live stream. Our normal 5PM broadcast has gone live, thus taking over our KDVR live stream. However, we have gone live on our alternate live stream. If you refresh your browser window, you should find yourself back in the theater trial live stream.
