FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Residents of Fort Collins now have two hospitals from which to choose when they need that kind of medical care.

Banner Medical Center is a new 146,000 square foot facility that will start serving the city and all of northern Colorado on April 6.

It has two operating rooms, an emergency room, four labor and delivery rooms and capacity to hold 144 beds.

The medical director says it's not huge but it has all the latest technology. "This is a growing and progressive community so it`s important for us to be on the cutting edge and that`s what patients are looking for in their healthcare nowadays," Dr. Lawrence Schoelkopf said.

Banner will bring competition to to the other hospital in Fort Collins, Poudre Valley Hospital, for the first time.

The new hospital has an open house Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
