VILLARRICA, Chile –The Villarrica volcano began spewing ash and lava overnight Tuesday.
The eruption continued for a few hours before calming down at dawn.
Sensational pictures of the eruption were being posted online, notably on Twitter.
About 3,000 people had to be evacuated from the area. The volcano is among the country’s most active.
But that hasn’t stopped adventurous climbers from trekking up its slope every summer.
