GEORGETOWN, Colo. — An Idaho Springs woman and her boyfriend have been charged with child abuse resulting in death.

In May, Haley Stanfield is alleged to have shook her 15-month-old baby and neither she nor her boyfriend Joshua Olsen pursued medical care for the little boy for three days despite witnessing signs of medical problems, according to the Clear Creek District Attorney’s Office.

The boy, Logan Borchik, later died.

If convicted, Stanfield could face 48 years in jail and Olsen’s maximum sentence would be 32 years, the DA’s office said.

Stanfield is already in jail awaiting trial on a murder-for-hire case.

“There is nothing worse than the preventable death of a child at the hands of a parent or caretaker,” District Attorney Bruce Brown said.

Brown also wrote to inform parents that crying is a normal way babies communicate and even when they cry a lot, they will stop crying on their own.

“When a parent or babysitter feels frustrated, angry, or stressed with a baby, please just take a break and reach out to a friend, relative, or a neighbor, or put your baby in a crib on his or her back and walk away for a few minutes.  Always remember, it will get better,” Brown said.
