KAFUE NATIONAL PARK, Zambia — A safari tour director caught some exciting footage while on a speed boat.

A giant hippo comes out of the water and launched itself at the boat.

Michael Varndell is the managing director of the tour company Malawian Style Safari and Adventure Holiday.

The video was posted to Varndell’s Facebook page on Tuesday.

The video starts out with just distant ripples and then the video is set in slow motion to get a good look at the giant hippos face.

When the huge animal pops out of the water, he is closer than you expect.

After the close encounter, the boat pick up speed to avoid contact with the boat.

“Nothing like getting too close for comfort,” Varndell wrote on his Facebook.
