DENVER — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office announced on twitter the death of their longtime team member, K-9 Flash on Wednesday.

The German Shepherd mix lost his battle with an aggressive form of cancer.  He served the office for nearly a decade, from 2006 to 2015.

As a bomb dog, he conducted thousands of searches, numerous protection details and participating in some of the area’s most high-profile incidents, the JeffCo Sheriff’s department said in a statement.

He even assisted Aurora Police in July 2012 with interior and exterior sweeps after the Aurora Century 16 Movie Theater shooting, according to the statement.

Flash’s handler, Deputy J.J. Smith, said he would like to thank everyone for their support and a remembrance event is being planned.
