ARVADA, Colo. -- Rescue crews from the Arvada Fire Department rescued a dog that fell through ice on a lake Thursday afternoon.

The rescue happened in Lake Arbor about 3:30 p.m. The dog appeared OK and was taken to a veterinarian to be checked out.

At the time the dog’s owner could not be located, but a search was conducted to make sure someone did not fall into the water and drowned.

The search was called off after no one was found, though officials said the lake is shallow enough to wade around.

One firefighter suffered a bite injury from the scared dog and was treated at the scene.

The dog was not with her owners when she fell through the ice. They say someone may have accidentally left the gate open.
