YAMPA, Colo. – The Royal Hotel in Yampa burned to the ground Saturday night, firefighters said.
The hotel, constructed between 1903 and 1906, was a total loss, firefighters said. No injuries were reported.
The blaze was first reported about 11 p.m. Firefighters from Oak Creek Fire and the Yampa Volunteer Fire Department responded, but were unable to save the structure.
The cause was under investigation.
Like many historic hotels, the Royal was used for many purposes over the years. At various times, it housed a newspaper, a hospital and a post office. It was also rumored to be haunted.
