DENVER -- A 6-year-old girl was struck but not seriously injured by a vehicle outside of Smith Elementary School on Friday morning, the Denver Police Department said.

The accident happened about 7 a.m. when, according to police, the girl ran into the street and was struck by a black Chrysler near East 35th Avenue and Kearney Street.

The driver stayed at the scene as police investigated. Paramedics transported the girl to a local hospital, where she's expected to be OK.
