Multiple controlled burns underway along Front Range

DENVER — Multiple controlled burns were underway along the Front Range Saturday, causing smoke plumes visible from the Denver metro area and alarming some residents.

A prescribed burn at Heil Valley Ranch Open Space — near U.S. 36 and Lefthand Canyon Road in Longmont — is expected to last for five days, if the clear weather continues.

Concerned residents may call 303-413-7730 with questions about the Heil Valley Ranch prescribed burn.

To the south, the Pike National Forest was also running planned burns at two sites:  in eastern Park County near Lake George and west of Highway 67 near the Douglas-Teller county line; .
