Vigil held for high school student seriously injured in chemistry class flash fire
DENVER — Family and friends of a high school student severely hurt in a chemistry class flash fire gathered Friday night and held a vigil to pray for his recovery.
Dominic Vargas received third degree burns when the experiment went wrong at SMART Academy earlier this month.
He’s still in critical condition and he’s undergoing surgeries to help with his healing process.
His brother says they’re hoping he’ll make a full recovery and he thanks the community for its support.
“I feel blessed, I feel like the community we live in … they have our back. “I feel wanted in this community and my brother feels the same way,” Johnny Vargas says.
Dominic’s family has set up a website for donations to help pay for his medical costs.
