Man charged with robbing bank, trying to escape on light rail
DENVER — A man was arrested Friday in connection with a bank robbery on the 16th Street Mall earlier this week.
Michael Whitington, 45, allegedly robbed a bank on 16th Street between Welton and California streets on Sept. 23. The suspect then allegedly boarded a light rail train in an attempt to get away.
Police stopped the train a few blocks away and arrested Whitington without incident, Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey’s office said.
The suspect remains in custody. His bond was set at $5,000.
