DENVER -- A girl riding her bike was hit by a car Thursday morning near East 35th Avenue and Central Park Boulevard.
The girl was heading west on East 35th in the crosswalk, the Denver Police Department said. She was struck by an eastbound car turning right onto Central Park.
The car was going less than 5 mph, police said. The girl was hospitalized and expected to survive. She was wearing a helmet, DPD said.
The driver will not face charges because the girl should not have been riding her bike in the crosswalk, DPD said. Traffic laws required her to remain in the bike lane, or dismount and wait for a signal to walk her bike across the crosswalk, police said.
The intersection is locally considered to be dangerous for pedestrians and bicyclists, neighbors said.
