NFL sources: Broncos’ Wes Welker reinstated for game Sunday
DENVER — The wait for Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker is almost officially over.
The formal announcement of reinstatement from the NFL isn’t expected to come until Wednesday morning. But according to NFL sources the players’ association has told Welker that he can return to work and will be eligible to play in this week’s game at Seattle.
The reinstatement is part of the agreement in the league’s new drug policy proposal.
In addition to Welker, the ruling affects a handful of other players who were serving suspensions but anxious to get back on the football field.
Welker was originally suspended for four games for alleged amphetamine use. He served two games of that suspension before the new policy kicked in that allows him to come back.
