LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A fatal accident closed westbound Interstate 70 near West Colfax Avenue for nearly five hours Saturday morning, the Lakewood Police Department reported.

A 20-year-old woman died in the crash, police said.

The incident occurred about 7: 30 a.m., about a quarter-mile east of Colfax, LPD reported. A white Dodge Neon was headed east on I-70 when the driver reportedly lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic, police said. The Neon collided head-on with a Dodge pickup truck.

The Neon’s driver died at the scene, LPD said. A child in the pickup was hospitalized with minor injuries, while others in the truck suffered minor injuries that did not require hospitalization.

While the accident was being investigated, westbound I-70 was closed for about four and a half hours, and eastbound I-70 was also closed briefly.

Police did not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, but a toxicology test was underway.
