BLACK HAWK, Colo. — A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries Wednesday after he was struck by a car and a gun he was carrying went off, the Gilpin County Sheriff’s Department said.

About 10:15 a.m., a motorcycle collided with a four-door Chevrolet sedan at the intersection of Highway 119 and Richman Street in Black Hawk, deputies said. The driver of the motorcycle was thrown and suffered serious injuries. During the crash, a gun carried by the motorcyclist apparently went off, inflicting a gunshot wound.

The motorcyclist was transported to a hospital by ambulance.

The car fled the scene heading north on Highway 119, GCSD said. Police located the run vehicle at a campground north of Black Hawk, but the driver escaped on foot.

Police reportedly located the man after a four-hour search.
