CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — A investigation is underway after NASCAR driver Tony Stewart reportedly hit and killed a fellow driver Saturday night, WREG reported.

The incident happened during a sprint car race at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in New York.

Reports indicate driver Kevin Ward Jr. was spun out in a minor collision with Stewart. As Ward exited the car moments later, Stewart appeared to fatally hit him.

The sheriff in the area told reporters a driver (Ward Jr.) was dead on arrival at the hospital.

Stewart was reportedly cooperating with police.
