DENVER -- Denver Broncos fans showed their love for the orange and blue Saturday.

Tens of thousands of them came out in force for the 4th annual Summer Scrimmage. The total number is just shy of last year's record. But that doesn't mean the state is losing its enthusiasm for the NFL’s AFC Champions.

They waited hours before the stadium even opened.

"We drove down. It's about a 7-hour drive," says Monique Tetrault, who came to the practice with her husband and two young daughters from South Dakota.

"It's exciting, it's busy. I wasn't expecting this many people," says another Broncos die-hard Jason Dlouhy of Lakewood.

Most are from the metro. Each of them with mile-high expectations.

"We had a letdown in the Super Bowl. But I think everybody is really excited to get back to it. Start over again, beat people down," says Dlouhy.

It was a party on the outside, as 38,620 fans came out to show support for their beloved Broncos.

"Everybody is getting ready for football, excited for the season to start," says Mark Widdow, who drove in from Fort Collins at 5:30 a.m.

All this enthusiasm for a practice.

“Everybody is willing to come out and brave the sun and everybody has their orange on. It's just exciting," says Broncos fan Nicole Ferarese of Denver.I

It's excitement where the crowds applaud the athletes for anything—even while they’re stretching.

It seems they can do no wrong--even with bad haircuts. The rookies got the bad end of the shears.

And even if they botched last year's Super Bowl.

"We have a little vengeance maybe to get out," says Widdows.

"It's amazing you know--just feeling the excitement of a new season coming up and a great season last year. I know we'll do better than last year and win it all this year," says fan Sonny Pacifico of Northglenn.

They show their love. And their gridiron greats give it right back.
