NEW YORK — Police in Brooklyn are trying to figure out how someone was able to replace the iconic American flags on top of the Brooklyn Bridge with all-white flags.

Motorists noticed the change Tuesday morning.

According to PIX11, police are not sure when the switch was made or who did it. By 11:30 a.m., both had been taken down.

Brooklyn borough president Eric Adams derided the stunt, saying it jeopardizes public safety especially at city landmarks that are already “known to be high-risk targets.”

“If flying a white flag atop the Brooklyn Bridge is someone’s idea of a joke, I’m not laughing,” Adams said in a statement.

White flags are traditionally known as a sign of surrender.

“We will not surrender our public safety to anyone, at any time. Political and social expression, whatever its message may be, has a place in our society, but not at the expense of others’ security,” he added.

I love this quote: “We will not surrender our public safety to anyone, at any time. ”

Funny thing is, they seem to have no problem whatsoever with surrendering their rights and freedoms.

I think that’s exactly what the white flags were meant to point out. I don’t think this was a prank.

Oh come on – some enterprising college frat boys drank too much Old Milwaukee and pulled a prank – stop trying to read grandiose statements into everything you see and hear. I for one think it’s hysterical – something we would have pulled off in my day. SMFH.
