AURORA, Colo. — E-470 set a new single-day record for traffic Friday.

According to the E-470 Public Highway Authority, the traffic was measured by the number of toll transactions, which totaled 246,205 on Friday.

This year, the highway has reported new highs for overall Friday traffic, increasing 9.2 percent from 2013’s single-day record of 225,378.

While Fridays typically yield high traffic, the Highway Authority said weekdays are also showing record numbers. Since June 15, single-day traffic highs have been recorded for every day of the week except Saturdays.

“We are benefiting from a strengthened economy with higher employment, more economic activity, and more traffic to Denver International Airport – the leading destination for our E-470 customers,” E-470 executive director John McCuskey said.

This is clearly a result of the trainwreck that I70 has become with the permanent construction past Tower. An intersate that should be 3 lanes is reduced to 1 and there are regularly mile long backups. Of course people are using E47 to get around this debacle. I’m sure the construction manager of the glacial expansion is getting a nice kickback.
