DENVER — The Denver District Attorney’s Office has charged a man of sexually assaulting and raping a woman nearly 20 years ago.

Donald Shores, 56, is charged with aggravated sexual assault and crime of violence that allege he assaulted and raped a 67-year-old woman on Sept. 6, 1994, in the 2000 block of Colorado Boulevard.

The victim died from cancer in 2000, but DNA collected at the time was connected to Shores in January after he was arrested in Texas on a drug charge.

Shores is being held in Temple, Texas, and faces extradition to Colorado. Bond has been set at $250,000.

Donald must be gasping in disbelief after so long a time he thought he got away with it. Lots of miscreants from long ago must be quivering in their boots as they contemplate the possibilities of DNA.
