LOVELAND, Colo. -- Five-year-old Cooper Logan has a passion for Star Wars and just loves Darth Vader.  He has an incredibly bright smile and brings joy to all around him.

As he led our news photographer on a fun-filled chase near the Children’s Hospital Colorado blood donation bus, it was a challenge to consider that Cooper is battling a serious disease.

Cooper’s father Shawn tells us his son has a heart condition and also needs a kidney transplant to survive.  Cooper has Kawasaki Disease.  Its cause is unknown, if patients aren't treated within a ten-day window, serious health problems develop.

Searching for a donor is a long and challenging road for parents.

Shawn says he is prepared to fight for Cooper while also doing all he can for other kids and adds, “I find my strength in my family and my faith.”

Shawn started the Kawasaki Kids Foundation to raise awareness of the disease and support for research. He says, “You really just have to take the bull by the horns and do whatever you can to help others.”

The community is also reaching out to the Logan family.

A blood drive organized by Advantage Bank of Loveland and Children’s Hospital Colorado drew immediate support from those wanting to donate in Cooper’s name.  Shawn says he hopes more community events will focus on blood and organ donation for everyone’s sake. He says his son Cooper is the ultimate inspiration adding, “Cooper is the most energetic loving kid you could know.”
