AURORA, Colo. — A suspected drunk driver was arrested early Saturday after fleeing the scene of a head-on collision, the Aurora Police Department said.

APD received a report of a pickup truck going the wrong way on Interstate 225 about 2:21 a.m. Moments later, the pickup was involved in a head-on crash with a Honda car just north of South Parker Road, police said.

The male pickup driver fled on foot, but was caught a short time later.  The female driver of the Honda suffered serious injuries but was expected to recover.

The driver of the Honda told police she saw headlights approaching and tried to stop, but was unable to avoid the crash due to construction barriers in the area.

The pickup driver faces charges of DUI, vehicular assault, hit-and-run, reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of the highway, driving without insurance and driving on a suspended license.

No names were released.
