AURORA, Colo. -- Adriene Garcia, the wife of Aurora Fire Chief Mike Garcia, is suspected in a hit-and-run accident that left two children injured Wednesday night, the Aurora Police Department said Thursday.

Police expect to file felony charges of careless driving resulting in serious bodily injury and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury against Adriene Garcia. Police do not believe intoxication or excessive speed are involved in the case.

Police did not say Adriene Garcia is the wife of Mike Garcia, but sources tell FOX31 Denver that she is.

Police say about 8:23 p.m. Wednesday, they received a report of a hit-and-run crash at E. Yale Avenue and S. Peoria Street. Police say a blue Hyundai sedan was stopped for a red light about to continue east when a black Nissan Pathfinder rear-ended the Hyundai.

The Pathfinder then left the accident scene going south on Peoria, police said.

Two children in the Hyundai, who were not restrained, were injured and taken to a local hospital. One of the children had a non-life-threatening but serious injury, police said.

About 8:45 p.m., police said they received another report from South Chambers Road and East Belleview Avenue and found the Pathfinder they say was driven by Adriene Garcia.

Investigators say she told them what happened.

Legal expert and defense attorney Dan Recht says he believes because she tried to make it right within 20 minutes of the crash, that will help her as she goes through the case against her.

Garcia's attorney says she has a previous brain injury and he plans to look into if that had something to do with what happened Wednesday night.

The driver of the Hyundai might face charges of failing to restrain the children.

Unless someone can tell me the fire chief was on duty and as a great alibi with time stamped video , I believe he was drunk and driving. My hypothesis is The wife told him to keep driving, then told him to get out and she got in the driver’s seat as she took blame for the hit & run. She didn’t want his name tarnished or job lost. And I also believe his brothers in blue will allow this to happen as long as those children come out of this alive and without permanent injuries.

I believe it was Donald Sterling driving. And after the accident, the Fire Chief was going to switch seats with him, but then they kept going because the wife of the Fire Chief told them to keep driving so he wouldn’t be labeled a racist. Or maybe it was OJ driving and she didn’t want his name tarnished. We better see if there is time-stamped video of him in his prison cell. Sound ridiculous? Yes you do.

And no doubt he/she was drunk…This has become the norm, drive away, sober up. take the lessor offense when they catch you..

This must be the 3rd hit and run I’ve seen this week.

Totally UNACCEPTABLE! IF it were anyone else, they would be in jail, not only that-she lied and said SHE was the victim! TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! This city wants hit and run accidents to stop-but the Chiefs’ wife is immune from being arrested immediately??? Come on Aurora, treat this suspect like anyone else and pick het up and arrest her right NOW!!!. The children are injured-BUT SHE IS AT HOME RESTING COMFORTABLY??????? YOU gotta be kidding me!!!!

There are a lot of issues in this one incident. It was a hit and run. She should know better than to leave being married to a First Responder. The other car did not keep its passengers safe. I am sure there is a whole bunch more we don’t know about yet.

Funny how they have a history of domestic events over the last 12 years. You never hear about them but they happened. The personnel of the fire dept. took a vote of no confidence on him and the city hushed that up too.

And it’s also upsetting, that this is already yesterdays’ news, with no arrest and no update to this HIT AND RUN, on any news channel. What a huge coverup, while other hit and run stories are in the news all the time, this one has already disappeared!!! I have looked for any updates and there are NONE!! WHY is this person not being arrested????????????? Any other hit and run drivers that get caught, GET ARRESTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very sad that this is NOT treated the same as everyone else. I’m VERY bothered by this. If it were me or my husband, we would have been hunted down and put in jail. Why isn’t that the case here???
