CONTRA COSTA, Calif. — A highway patrolman in California rescued a Chihuahua from the center divider of a busy freeway.

The rescue happened Friday on Interstate 680 during rush hour.

The California Highway Patrol posted a photo of the officer with the dog on their Twitter feed.

It’s not clear how the dog got onto the center median. The officer used a piece of a protein bar to coax the dog closer so he could pick it up, reported KTVU-TV.

The Chihuahua was taken to animal services and was recovering at a shelter.
