DENVER — The Denver Broncos have addressed needs in the 2014 draft. On the final day, they landed a linebacker.

The Broncos had a wait a little longer to grab their guy though.

Denver traded with Chicago giving up its 131st and 246th picks for the Bears 156th pick and a fifth round pick in 2015.

The Broncos landed LSU linebacker Lamin Barrow in the 5th round.

“We were thrilled with the way it fell again,” said general manager John Elway. “We were holding on a little bit after we moved back from the bottom of the fourth to the middle of the fifth—we were holding on a little bit there. But fortunately Lamin made it to us there. That was the one—John [Fox] made about 18 laps around the room (laughing). The most nervous time of the draft.”

Barrow is 6-1, 237 pounds, and earned second-team All-SEC honors last season. He was also a senior leader for the Tigers.

Barrow adds depth at middle linebacker, but also played mostly weakside at LSU.

“The moment was just surreal,” said Barrow. There was so much you’ve been waiting on; I’ve been dreaming of this my whole life. Just watching the draft, you get frustrated seeing some of the guys, some of the people going before me, teams passing on me. And I got on the phone, I talked to Coach [Defensive Coordinator] Del Rio and I talked to Mr. Elway and they just said, ‘Welcome to the family.’ I knew it was real at that point and I’m celebrating with my family, we’re just celebrating right now.”

The Broncos later added Boise State center Matt Paradis in the 6th round.  In the final round, Denver drafted Oklahoma linebacker Corey Nelson.
