LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- A man was shot by police in the parking lot of a Walmart early Tuesday morning after pointing a pellet gun at officers, Lakewood Police said.

Just after 3 a.m., Lakewood Police responded to a domestic dispute in a car outside of the Walmart at West Colfax Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard.

A woman told police that the male suspect had a gun.  When officers tried to get him out of the vehicle, he pointed what they believed to be a gun at them. One of the officers opened fire, striking the man, police said.

After further investigation, police discovered the man had an airsoft gun that looks like a real gun, police said.

The man was taken to St. Anthony Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The woman was taken to the police department for an interview.
