Denver jury finds man guilty in wife’s murder

DENVER -- A man accused in the November 2012 murder of his wife was found guilty by a Denver jury Friday.

Christopher Perea was found guilty of first-degree felony murder, second-degree murder and second-degree kidnapping in the death of his wife, 44-year-old Loretta Barela, according to Denver District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough.

On Nov. 18, 2012, Denver police and paramedics responded to 1500 block of S. Carlan Court, where they found the body of a woman. The body was later identified as Barcela.

Kimbrough said no date has yet been set for Perea's sentencing, as he is schedule to go to trial next month on a habitual criminal charge.
