JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — Jefferson County deputies arrested a male suspect in connection with an incident at a recreation center involving someone trying to break into lockers in the male locker room.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the Ridge Recreation Center at 6613 S. Ward St. at approximately 5 p.m. Tuesday on the report of a robbery in progress.

An employee told law enforcement a man was attempting to break into lockers in the male locker room.

Deputies later identified Mel Peter Trujillo, 43, as a suspect in this case.

Before deputies arrived on scene, another employee reportedly confronted Trujillo, who then ran from the building.

Two other employees ran after him into the parking lot, said deputies, where Trujillo jumped into a truck and left the scene.

As Trujillo was fleeing the area, he passed a deputy, who stopped him and took him into custody.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said Trujillo is also a suspect in a locker-theft incident that occurred at the Ridge Recreation Center Sunday.

He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail for third-degree burglary and criminal mischief.

Years ago, when I was weightlifting trying to make a man of myself,
I discovered that a criminal had bent the locker latches so that they barely latched.
Though secured with a padlock, hitting the latch up just enough allowed the “locked” door to be opened. When closed it would latch.

I never bothered to lock my locker.
Accidentally, I brought my wallet into the club in my back pocket.
I hid it in a pant leg of my jeans hanging in the locker.

After working out, I discovered thathe jeans had been slightly turned to reach the back pockets.
Wallet was still in the pant leg.

Roofers discovered many wallets tossed up on the roof.
