BOULDER, Colo. — Power has been restored in the Boulder area after more than 15,000 customers lost it Monday morning, said Xcel Energy, which did not have an explanation for the outage.

Xcel originally said on Twitter that 24,672 customers were without power. But it revised that to 15,300 after service was restored. Xcel said the power outage began at 8:10 a.m. and all power was restored at 9:39 a.m.

The outage was in spotty areas in the Boulder, Jeppeson and Niwot areas.

Xcel said it rerouted customers on the transmission line that had issues to other transmissions. It said it is investigating why there were problems on the original line and said it’s highly unlikely weather was a problem.

The Boulder Daily Camera reported that according to Boulder police dispatchers, numerous major intersections did not have operating traffic lights and officers were deployed to direct traffic.
