Tech Review: A light bulb that doubles as a speaker

The AwoX StriimLIGHT is both a light bulb and a bluetooth speaker.  Screw it into any standard light bulb socket, pair it with a smartphone or tablet and you're ready to go.  Once it's paired you can hit play in your favorite music app and the music will stream wirelessly to the light bulb.  The light will turn on and off with the switch you typically use on your wall.  When the light is off though, the Bluetooth function won't work.  There is an included remote that lets you turn the light off while still keeping the Bluetooth speaker powered up.   You can also adjust the volume and mute the speaker using the remote.

If you don't currently use LED light bulbs, you'll notice that the color of light it puts out is a bit different than a traditional light bulb.  It has a touch more blue to it, similar to fluorescent bulbs.  Also, since the speaker has to be small to fit into the bulb, it's plenty loud but in my tests it didn't put out the same deep bass that you will get from a bigger speaker.

None the less, the StriimLIGHT is an awesome way easily to add a concealed speaker in any room or patio. Installation is as simple as screwing in a light bulb and it works exactly as you would expect.

The AwoX StriimLIGHT sells online for $99.
