Woman in police custody after fatal shooting in Pueblo
PUEBLO, Colo. — A shooting sparked by a fight early Tuesday in Pueblo, which eventually led to a police standoff, left a man dead and a woman in police custody.
The incident started shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday in the 2100 block of Cedar Street in Pueblo.
Pueblo police Sgt. Eric Gonzalez told KRDO that officers found the body of a man, who had died of a gunshot wound, in the front yard of a residence.
Authorities identified the victim as 25-year-old Eddie Johnson.
Following the shooting, police received a tip that led them to the 2100 block of Vinewood Lane, approximately ten minutes from the shooting. A SWAT standoff ensued shortly after the arrival of law enforcement, which resulted in eight people being removed from the residence.
Police also identified as Taria Wilhite-Moore as a suspect in the case, and took her into police custody.
“We got here, the SWAT set up and we got warrants. Then people started coming out of the house,” Gonzalez told KRDO. “Eight people came out. We ended up getting four children and four adults. When there’s kids involved in a standoff, it totally changes the procedures. We have to consider that there are innocent victims that can’t defend themselves in the home.”
Police said Wilhite-Moore will face a charge of first-degree murder and is being held at Pueblo County Jail on $1.5 million bond.
