Sixth Avenue to have long closures Saturday night, Sunday morning
DENVER — Both directions of Sixth Avenue will be closed Saturday night and Sunday morning so workers can set girders for the new Knox Court bridge over the highway.
The Colorado Department of Transportation will close the highway between Federal Boulevard and Sheridan Avenue from 9 p.m. Saturday until 7 a.m. Sunday.
Two westbound lanes will reopen at 7 a.m. Sunday, while the eastbound lanes will remain closed until 10 a.m.
CDOT is advising regional drivers to use Interstate 70, U.S. 285 and C-470 during the closures, while local traffic can use Alameda or Colfax avenues.
“Setting girders on the Knox Court bridge is one of the final steps to take before crews can officially reopen this bridge,” CDOT Project Director Kevin Sullivan said. “The bridge is scheduled to reopen in May and we couldn’t be more excited to check off this first project milestone.”
It will be the first of six new bridges that will be completed as part of the $98 million project on Sixth Avenue between just east of Interstate 25 and Knox.
