An 80-year-old grandmother has become a big hit on Instagram thanks to her teenage great-grandson, Zach Belden.
Belden created the account, GrandmaBetty33, as a tribute to her after she was diagnosed with terminal cancer earlier this year.
The account has mushroomed to more than 85,000 followers since January.
“It gives her something to look forward to every day,” Betty’s granddaughter and Zach’s mother, Hope Belden, told Today.com. “She still asks every morning, ‘How many more friends do I have today?’”
There are videos on the account of Grandma Betty dancing, including one with her swaying to “Celebration” by Kool & the Gang.
Grandma Betty has been diagnosed with late-stage lung cancer and is too frail to undergo chemotherapy or radiation.
“He wanted to give her something that would make her happy and fight until there was no fight left. That was really important for him,” Belden said of her son.
As the account grew, Grandma Betty received support from followers around the world.
“Grandma tries to stay very positive about what’s going on and what she feels, because she feels bad most days. She has more bad days than good days lately,” Belden said.
